There has to be several dots after a title like that because summer is ....space....is freedom...is hanging loose...
At our centre, we are seasons in different ways - physically, age-wise, work-wise. In any job of work, we have a spring full of ideas and promise, and winters 'of discontent'. In relationships, there are summers where everything is going well, and happiness is the norm. There are also autumns where gentleness must pervade, or we encounter dried up-ness and weariness.
In nature, summer is a time of noticing wide-open spaces, and opportunities, and bright light, and new paths. More energy is available for engaging, whether that be engagement of doing or of being. Summer is a time for openness and taking rest, of connecting and renewing relationships.
Interestingly, popular press has it that summer is a time of 'fun and partying'. And this has to be true, whatever our version of that phrase is.. Summer is a time set apart in many traditions for doing something different from the norm. In the past, this was the time of plenty, when earth yielded its blessings, and there was a plentiful supply of food. It was a time when the earth was warm, and so we wanted to work less. It was - and is - a season of festivals.
Above all, we tune into a world which is designed to be at its zenith, in peak condition. It is an opportunity to take stock of what condition we are in, and to enjoy the best of that.
